Command: Mind

Summary

This playable area takes place in a digital/mental reconstruction of a studio apartment unit in a cyberpunk city setting. The Player Character, Diane, is in the middle of a mind-hack of a specific Target. 

This playable area is the introduction for Diane (and thus the Player) of the Target’s apartment - or at least a memory of it. Diane explores the Target’s memory of the apartment, putting together clues and trying to find the correct Key Card to escape before the time runs out and the apartment memory destabilizes. 

Controls 

If you're unfamiliar with tank controls, movement is determined relative to the character's position based on the camera angle. 

Up/Down movement on keyboards/gamepads gives a ramping up of character acceleration and Left/Right movement turns the characters body instead of strafing or instantly moving left/right.

Q (when prompted) : Observe a key area of the Apartment

E (when prompted) : Inspect a key item

J (after inspect) : Pick up key item

K (after inspect) : Drop key item

A Note about our Intended Audience

This project is intended to evoke the old-school, tank control survival horror games like Haunting Ground, Resident Evil, or the more recent (excellent) survival horror game SIGNALIS, which accomodated a more modern control scheme and tank controls as an option. As a personal challenge, we committed to tank controls, but if we were to continue supporting the game, we might add alternative/modern control schemes in the future.

It is intended that there is very little hand-holding, with no traditional tutorials, and the deteriorating resource of your flashlight and a limited amount of time to explore a space on your own before any given run ends. 

Obviously, we know there is room to improve regarding refining movement, player onboarding, etc. But we understand this may not be for everyone and are very grateful to anyone who gives our project a shot.
